Pax Night Below

Session 22
Regicide

28th Goldenfields 1301 WR

Rearmed, and determined to renew their assault on the menace in the Underdark, the party returned to find the Derro Warrens abandoned, and pressed forward. By cunning and skill, the party located a hidden tunnel, leading to a fast flowing underground river. This river, feeding into the great stone pipes of the City of the Glass Pool itself, led the party to a secret door, hidden in the cavern wall above the city itself. From here, the party was able to map and plan their first attack. In a daring move, they struck first at the head. Descending onto the fortress like palace from above, they quickly overpowered the royal guard, and came face to face with Bugoorgoop, Priest-King of the Glass Pool, and Ilzendren, his illithid “advisor”. In a titanic battle against the mind flayer and the chosen of Blibdoolpoolp, the party emerged victorious, cutting down the King, and departing the city laden with treasure. Now the party must decide their next move in the ongoing siege of the City of the Glass Pool…

Warrens of the Servitors

27th Goldenfields 1301 WR

While mourning Kethtril in the company of the Svirfneblin, a traveler from the surface arrives in the Underdark. Reorf Shimmerblade, a priest of Solan, has been sent by the Matria of his church to seek the missing Nightfather. Assembling once again, the party teleported back to face the foul Derro servants of the Mindtakers. This time however, Aryk chose a different path, forging on himself, until he was met by a single Rockseer Elf. Steeling himself, he was guided back to the party, and together, they overran the outer Derro defenses and freed numerous slaves, returning them to the Svirfneblin. However, before they could finish off the Derro threat, the party encountered their most dangerous foe yet, a sinister Illithid. Fleeing in disarray before the tremendous power of the creature, the party has regrouped once again, as the threat of the City of Glass Pool looms ever larger…

The Mindtakers

24th Goldenfields 1301 WR

Returning to Darafayen, the party handed over the Sapphire Dragonet, discussing the revelation that the Rockseers have cheated death. Despite unsure feelings about this knowledge, the party were awarded with powerful Elven Cloaks by the Rockseers as well as promise of aid when needed. Heading back toward the main path, the party encountered a second group of Derro. Following them to their lair, the party fell afoul of the cunning defenses of the Servitor Derro. In a ferocious battle, with Derro pouring from the very walls, Kethril was slain by a blast of frost. Returning to the Svirfneblin, resurrection proved useless to return Kethtril to life, and, mourning their loss, the party settled down to plan their next move…

Secrets of the Rockseers

23rd Goldenfields 1301 WR

After questioning and then executing the captured Slaver, the party moved deeper into the outer tunnels of the City of the Glass Pool. After stumbling into a Derro Warren, the party rapidly dispatched the protectors and engaged in a fierce battle with the Savants in a Flux Cavern. The Savants fought to the death, at which point the party briefly halted to bind up their wounds, only to then determine that the remaining Derro had committed suicide rather than face capture. Also present was the Sapphire Dragonet sought by the Rockseer Elves, which imparted a hazy memory of the past to Grend, of wars long ago fought, and oaths of the moment broken by fear and doubt. Now the party stands face to face with Darafayen, the leader of the Rockseers, with many questions yet unanswered about the evil growing in the depths of the world…

Scales Before the Elves

19th Goldenfields 1301 WR

Moving swiftly through the tunnel system toward the lair of the Behir, the party took the element of surprise and quickly overwhelmed the scaly creature, slaying it and looting it’s lair. Continuing deeper however, the party had the misfortune of falling afoul of the shadow dragon Fandruzsh, who quickly incapacitated Grend before descending to rip the rest of the party apart. After a ferocious battle against the huge wyrm, the party managed to slay it and thus gained access to the dragon’s immense hoard of treasure. Continuing toward the source of the odd magic sensed by Camerenen and her gnomes, the party found themselves trapped in a dead end when Kethtril was kidnapped. After a few hours of negotiation, the rest of the party was brought through to meet the mysterious Rockseer Elves. Although the elves are highly isolationist and turned the party away, a young Rockseer named Aljayera escorted the party deeper into the Underdark, with a request that they recover a sapphire dragonet lost by the Rockseers long, long ago. Pressing forward on their own toward the outskirts of the City of the Glass Pool, the party defeated a group of black clad adventurers, taking one prisoner…

The Smooth Caverns

16th Goldenfields 1301 WR

Making their way into the ancient and mysterious caves, the party passed through a strange set of caverns, covered in beautiful carvings and scupltures, perfectly smoothed and shaped by ancient magic, seemingly frozen mid-spell. Although ropers had infested the area, the party quickly dispatched the creatures and explored the odd environment, including a powerful dead magic zone and ancient writing holding a strange power. Finally the party encountered a sacred site of Divine Earth, a beautiful crystalline tree, with fallen gemstone fruit, fruit which bore an eerie resemblance to the cracked lifestone recovered from the body of a dead deep elf. In an effort to learn more, Taveren called up Sa Sa-ah, a Djinn servant of Divine Air, who was able to reveal the mysterious Whisperers dwelling in the Underdark, the forsaken Rockseer Elves…

The Rakshasa and the Relic

14th Goldenfields 1301 WR

Smashing their way past the last of the hook horrors infesting the quaggoth caves, the party came upon what appeared to be a young woman in distress. However, much to their surprise and horror, the creature was revealed to be a vile rakshasa – a material demon of excess and power, who easily overcame the party’s remaining resources, forcing them to flee via the flux stone before they suffered a complete loss. Quickly recuperating and regaining their strength, the party teleported back into the fray, engaging the rakshasa as it attempted to flee and putting an end to the evil creature. Amongst the treasure the party then located an artifact of the great power, the sword Finslayer, an intelligent item crafted to overcome the aboleth in a forgotten age. With the aid of the sword’s memories the party learned the true nature of the Stonewalkers – the Rockseer Elves, a secretive group of elves devoted to the Power of Earth. Now the party enters the caverns once inhabited by these mysterious beings, in hopes of finding allies and aid in assaulting the City of the Glass Pool…

Monsters at War

8th Goldenfields 1301 WR

Returning to the Underdark with a new sense of urgency, the party struck out along the Long Path, seeking a way to bypass the rumored Temple of Jubilex. With knowledge of feral quaggoths in the area, the party was able to successfully parley with the ursine creatures for safe shelter and information. The quaggoths were able to provide some information about the area, including the presence of a mysterious force they call the “Stonewalkers” who move through the region. These Stonewalkers appear to be benevolent, and word of their magic seemed to provide a clue for how the party might escape the dreaded Temple. Unfortunately, the quaggoths were themselves beset by a clan of vicious hook horrors. A tremendous battle was fought in the passages of the Quaggoth Cavern, and although the party was victorious, they are badly bloodied and still in danger from the vicious monsters warring in the depths…

Grasping Tendrils

20th Ascension 1301 WR

Returning to the Grell Nest with the restored Aryk, the party savagely hacked down the remaining Grell, although a particularly ancient Grell unleashed a number of powerful magics. The source was then revealed to be a powerful flux point, a source of powerful Underdark energy. Grend, using the flux stone previously found, was able to attune himself to the ley line, gaining powerful abilities of translocation. Continuing through the cavern, the party encountered and slew a foul Deepspawn, claiming treasure and evidence of a previous adventuring party that had passed through the area. They also encountered rumors of a powerful sword somewhere in the area. Returning the surface, the party spent some of their wealth and picked up the disturbing news of the disappearance of Nightfather Kellarn to the sinister reaches of whoever is working below Haranshire. Faced with the loss of a major political figure and magical power in the surface world, the party delves back into the Underdark, seeking a safe and quick path to the City of the Glass Pool…

The Grell Nest

7th Ascension 1301 WR

Heeding the gnomish advice, and making a quick trip to sell off their loot, the party headed for the long path towards the City of the Glass Pool. Braving a harsh razor rock filled series of passages, they made their way into a nest of Grell. The Grell colony defended their home with ferocious vigor, their innate flight, paralysis, and lightning lances inflicting a heavy toll on the party as they advanced into the cave. The party encountered numerous strange occurences in the cave, including a strange necromantic amulet around the throat of a dead drow. During a battle with a Grell Philosopher deep within the colony, Aryk was struck down and devoured. After avenging him, the party took his remains back to Camerenen, who restored the fallen Aryk to life.
